HCRI is currently looking for a Copy Editor/Medical Writer. The Copy Editor/Medical Writer reports directly to the Medical Director of Clinical Development and is responsible for working collaboratively with other members of the Clinical Development staff as well as other departments in the copy editing and final preparation of clinical trial protocols, amendments, and related supportive documents such as regulatory agency responses, clinical event review committee manuals of operations, data safety monitoring board charters, and investigative brochures.  In addition, this person will perform copy editing of clinical study and statistical reports for sponsors, as well as presentations, slide decks, and manuscripts. 

The Copy Editor/Medical Writer will work with the Medical Director, Clinical Development and Senior Medical Director, Medical Affairs to train and mentor others in the group in Copy Editing.  Lastly, the Copy Editor/Medical Writer will have the opportunity to help write a variety of documents produced by the Clinical Development department such as the ones described above.

Primary Duties:

  • Take primary responsibility for copy editing all documents produced by the Clinical Development and some documents produced by other departments to ensure there are no grammatical, formatting, or typographical errors, and that the document is internally consistent.
  • Interact closely with team members to ensure the accuracy of all documents, published manuscripts, slide sets and reports and to conduct the final copy edit check.
  • Interact extensively with HCRI medical staff, as well as members of other departments such as Clinical Review, Safety, Project Management, Data Management, and Biostatistics, in order to manage the review and approval process for documents.
  • Train and mentor other staff members in Copy Editing.
  • Write the various documents which are produced by the Clinical Development department.

Secondary Duties:

  • Participate in Department meetings.
  • Attend technical training and industry meetings.
  • Comply with all appropriate HCRI policies and procedures.

Requirements:

Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experienceRelated

Experience: 2-4 years of experience in medical copy editing, especially clinical study and statistical reports.  Some medical writing experience also helpful.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate high quality copyediting skills for manuscripts, protocols, study reports etc.  Additional experience of instructing others in these skills is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and proven interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and End Note.  Experience with other scientific graphics software would be helpful.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work within a matrix team environment and form productive working relationships.
    Ability to multitask with flexibility in managing simultaneous and shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrate high quality scientific writing ability including manuscripts, protocols, study reports etc.  Writing samples may be requested.
